To me, this song is Nicaragua. This song is my first experience traveling outside the country. This song is my city, León. This song is my Nica mama's (Catalina) wrinkles around her mouth when she smiles and her booming belly laughter, it's the chicken's screaming at 5:30AM, it's the sweltering heat, it's Cafe Rosita, it's the Cathedral's stairs, it's 5,000 warm hugs.
Music has been EVERYTHING in my journey to learn the Spanish language. I actually learned to translate my thoughts efficiently and fluidly from English to Spanish, literally how to speak in Spanish, by translating English songs to Spanish on paper, then trying to sing the Spanish version to the original beat to see if the new lyrics fit!
I challenge you to learn the lyrics of this song, even if the grammar is too advanced for you current level of Spanish comprehension. Then, I challenge you to live by them.
"Siente, baila, y goza, que la vida es una sola." "Feel, dance, and enjoy, for there is only one life."
